The car air filter is a crucial component of a vehicle’s engine system that helps to keep the air that enters the engine clean.
It is located in the airintake system and can be easily accessed for inspection and replacement. There are four types of car air filters:
1- Paper Air Filter: Made of multi-pleated paper that traps dirt and debris.
2- Oiled Air Filter: Similar to paper, but coated with oil to trap smaller
particles.
3- Foam Air Filter: Made of dense foam material and is washable and
reusable.
4- Cotton Air Filter: Made of woven cotton and is washable and reusable.

The importance of a clean car air filter includes:
1- Improved engine performance
2- Increased fuel efficiency
3- Extended engine life
4- Protection from contaminants such as dust, dirt, and pollen
It is recommended to replace the air filter every 20,000 to 25,000 KMs or as advised by the manufacturer in the owner’s manual. Neglecting to replace a dirty air filter can result in reduced engine performance and fuel efficiency, and can also lead to engine damage.
